Containers and contaminated packaging
Container condition matters because damaged closures or residue around an opening can make routine handling unsuitable. Acetone must not be poured to drainage or deliberately evaporated as a disposal method. Tins that appear empty may still contain hazardous residue and should not automatically enter ordinary metal or plastic recycling.
Identifying spent acetone
A safety data sheet is useful for the supplied product, but a spent cleaning solvent may be materially different. Process information, known additions and further testing where necessary help establish the composition of the spent solvent and whether a receiving process can accept it.

Can acetone mixed with resin be recovered?
Possibly, but recovery depends on the actual mixture and the process used by the receiving facility. Resin contamination must be taken into account.
Can acetone be left to evaporate?
No. Deliberate evaporation is not a suitable disposal method and can create uncontrolled exposure and fire risks.
Do empty acetone tins need separate assessment?
Hazardous residues can remain, so the packaging needs assessing before ordinary recycling is considered.
Does water added during use change the assessment?
It can affect composition and recovery suitability, so the mixture must be described accurately.
Does collection include solvent-soaked wipes?
