Not every spent solvent can be recovered. The composition of the solvent and the contaminants introduced during use determine whether a recovery process is technically suitable. Keeping consistent solvent streams separate gives the receiving facility better information than a mixed drum of unidentified washings.
Solvent Recovery
Solvent recovery for spent solvents whose composition is suitable for an authorised recovery process.

Composition matters
Water, resin, paint and other contaminants can determine whether solvent recovery is viable.
Recovery produces residues
A recovery process can still leave contaminants and residues that need further treatment or disposal.
Composition and distillation
Distillation and other recovery processes depend on the properties of the mixture. Water, dissolved resin, paint, oil or other solvents can affect separation and the quality of recovered material. A drum label naming the original solvent does not prove that the spent batch is suitable for recovery.

Sampling spent solvent
Process information may be enough to describe a consistent waste stream, but representative analysis can be needed where the composition is uncertain or variable. Any sample should represent the material as a whole, including separated phases or settled contamination where present.
Residues from recovery
Recovery does not make all waste disappear. Contaminants and still-bottoms or other process residues require their own treatment or disposal. We describe recovery as the confirmed treatment for a suitable stream, not as an automatic recycling claim for every solvent collected.
Solvent Recovery: common questions
Can all mixed solvents be recovered?
No. Recovery depends on the composition of the mixture and the capabilities of the receiving process.
Will a sample be required?
Representative sampling may be needed where the process information does not adequately describe the stream.
Does recovery mean no waste remains?
No. Recovery processes can generate residues and separated contaminants that still need suitable treatment or disposal.
Can a clear top layer represent a mixed solvent tank or drum?
Not reliably. Any representative sample needs to reflect the material as a whole, including separated phases or settled contamination.
Can changing the coating alter solvent recovery suitability?
Yes. New dissolved materials can change acceptance and the recovery process required.
